Facilitator Training
The focus of the training opportunities listed below is to train students, faculty and staff to safely and effectively facilitate programming on the WVU Challenge Course. The skills and practice encountered during this training are highly transferable to classroom and meeting room environments. Spotted activities training
Cost = $60 ($40 subsidized student cost)
Trainer – Mountaineer Adventure Program
This training covers the curriculum designated by the Association for Challenge Course Technology “site specific” level 1 practitioner certification standard for spotted activities only. This training does not include certification. It will cover basic facilitation, spotting, operating procedures, and risk management. This training is a perfect introduction into challenge course facilitation! It will be a fun – hands on experience. This course assumes no previous experience in the challenge course industry. While it does cover basics, it is also a helpful introduction to the WVU facility and operating procedures.

Advanced Facilitation Skills
Cost = $60 ($40 subsidized student cost)
Trainer – Mountaineer Adventure Program
This training provides the practitioner with additional skills, knowledge, and practice in planning and facilitating spotted activities. This training picks up where the Spotted Activities Training leaves off, introducing some additional techniques as well as debrief coaching and peer feedback. In addition, new games and activities will be introduced. In order to take full advantage of this training, previous facilitation training/ experience is recommended but not required.

High Activities Training (covers Dynamic Belay, Static Belay, Giant Swing)

Trainer – Alpine Towers International
The focus of this training is to provide participants with a functional knowledge of belayed challenge course activities as it relates to the WVU Challenge Course. This training covers the curriculum designated by the Association for Challenge Course Technology for Level 1 site specific High Activities Only practitioner certification standards. This course does not include certification. This course is very hands on and practical training which will prepare you to facilitate at a basic level on the WVU challenge course. No previous experience is required.
